I spent Halloween this year doing something a little different over at The Sussex Makeup Academy! Far removed from my usual bridal brief, I worked on my first creative Halloween makeup look with Principle Amy Prifti.
Taking inspiration from some of the fantastic skull makeup looks online, we designed the skull effect that we wanted to achieve with pen and paper first.
We painted on the white base to cover the bottom half of the face using a large buffing brush and sponge before mapping out the key features of the cheek bones, jaw line and teeth with a finer brush. We moved on to contour and shade each element with black and grey makeup to create the 3D effect of the skull.
Once the eye socket and cracking details were added around the chin and cheeks, the look was given a finishing touch using gems from Funk On.
I thoroughly enjoyed working on this creepy look and was amazed by what could be achieved with Amy’s tips and guidance.

It was so much fun providing glitter makeup as a surprise for birthday girl Kelly. She hosted a party for all her friends and family at The Cartlodge, Horam Manor Farm which is a beautifully restored barn in Horam, East Sussex. My pop-up glitter bar was such a hit with all the guests: young, old, women and men! I created festival style glitter makeup in a variety of different colours using a mixture of makeup, body glitter and bindi gems.
Here’s a few words from Kelly:
“Sophie was fabulous doing some sparkle make up on my 40th birthday party. Great with the adults and children alike. Beautiful make up , thanks again Sophie x”
If you’re interested in booking a glitter bar for your party or event please get in touch to discuss your requirements and I can put together a bespoke service to suit you.
Hannah and Ed got married in Rotherfield on a gorgeous sunny day in September. Hannah went for lovely natural makeup with lots of pretty individual lashes and a perfect shade of pink lipstick to complete the look. Her dress was from bridal boutique Fross in Uckfield and had a beautiful lace neckline. I just loved the country feel to this wedding. I was even lucky enough to meet their gorgeous son Henry during her trial. Congratulations Hannah and Ed!
A few words from Hannah:
“Sophie did mine and my bridesmaids makeup for my wedding on 16th September. She was a pleasure to deal with and so professional from start to finish. At my trial and on the day she really listened to what I was looking for while still offering professional advice where needed. One of my bridesmaids was nervous about having her makeup done due to problem skin and Sophie chatted with her beforehand to go through her options and put her completely at ease too. I absolutely LOVED my makeup on the day and looking back at the pictures I am so glad I hired Sophie to do it. My makeup lasted throughout the day and night – even my lipstick lasted well through the dinner! I would not hesitate to book Sophie again and would highly recommend her to anyone. Thank you Sophie! X”
