Creative Skull Makeup For Halloween 2017

I spent Halloween this year doing something a little different over at The Sussex Makeup Academy! Far removed from my usual bridal brief, I worked on my first creative Halloween makeup look with Principle Amy Prifti.

Taking inspiration from some of the fantastic skull makeup looks online, we designed the skull effect that we wanted to achieve with pen and paper first.

We painted on the white base to cover the bottom half of the face using a large buffing brush and sponge before mapping out the key features of the cheek bones, jaw line and teeth with a finer brush. We moved on to contour and shade each element with black and grey makeup to create the 3D effect of the skull.

Once the eye socket and cracking details were added around the chin and cheeks, the look was given a finishing touch using gems from Funk On.

I thoroughly enjoyed working on this creepy look and was amazed by what could be achieved with Amy’s tips and guidance.

The Sussex Makeup Academy run a variety of creative makeup courses for all skill levels so if you want to get involved, check them out: http://www.sussexmakeupacademy.co.uk/

Glitter Party at Horam Manor Farm

It was so much fun providing glitter makeup as a surprise for birthday girl Kelly. She hosted a party for all her friends and family at The Cartlodge, Horam Manor Farm which is a beautifully restored barn in Horam, East Sussex. My pop-up glitter bar was such a hit with all the guests: young, old, women and men! I created festival style glitter makeup in a variety of different colours using a mixture of makeup, body glitter and bindi gems.

Here’s a few words from Kelly:

“Sophie was fabulous doing some sparkle make up on my 40th birthday party. Great with the adults and children alike. Beautiful make up , thanks again Sophie x”

If you’re interested in booking a glitter bar for your party or event please get in touch to discuss your requirements and I can put together a bespoke service to suit you.

Summer Garden Bridal Shoot, East Sussex

This shoot came about after meeting fellow bridal makeup artist and hair stylist Nikki back in the Spring. We wanted to work together to showcase a bridal look perfect for summer.

The brief was to create fresh, glowy skin with a subtle eye contour and pink tones for the lips and blush. For the hair Nikki opted for tousled, loose curls with a fresh flower crown which has been a popular look for 2017 brides. We chose a soft, romantic style dress to compliment this look.

We collaborated with professional wedding and portrait photographer S Butler photography who took a mixture of candid shots and styled poses at our country garden location in Mayfield, East Sussex. We had a fantastic morning working together and were lucky enough to have perfect weather conditions for the garden shoot.

The  dresses were supplied to us by bridal boutique Go Bridal, sister store to the Pantiles Bride, in Tunbridge Wells who supply a fantastic selection of bridal and bridesmaid’s dresses. The beautiful bouquet was generously donated to us by Holly and Nathan at Flower House and Home, fantastic florists and venue stylists based in Mayfield, East Sussex.

I was so pleased with the finished look on our model Charlie and to have so many fantastic shots. Looking forward to working with this team again!

Photoshoot at ‘the Studio’

This beautiful studio in Brighton was recommended to me by J&I Photography and it was the perfect location for a bridal photoshoot.

I collaborated with photographer Inger Sanders and hair stylist and wig maker Eloise Standen to create and capture three beautiful bridal looks on our models. The light just hit the studio beautifully and made for some fantastic shots.

On Roberta I used Nars Sheer Glow foundation, Zoeva Coral Spectrum blush, Smashbox neutrals eye palette and Chanel’s Rouge Allure lipstick in ‘Pirate’ to create a glamorous but classic look.

We also did a second look on Roberta in a stunning dusky pink bridal gown which was complimented beautifully by Mac’s Matte Lipstick in Smoked Purple.

In a more traditional bridal style, Ugne wears Mac Pro Longwear foundation, Laura Mercier blush in Rose Petal and eyeshadow from my Zoeva metals eye palette. On her lips I used one of my most popular bridal lipsticks by Mac in colour Syrup.
